Riding Tips

Why is it that the first beautiful weather of the year always falls on the days that I am working. Anyone else have that problem? I work a weird schedule. Lately, every weekend that I have off  has been near freezing or raining. This weekend is absolutely beautiful. I can almost hear Piglet in the garage like a child begging to go out and play. Of course, it is really my inner child needing a Play Day. I have been scoping out some saddle bags for piglet and still can't find what I'm looking for. I have the perfect road trip in mind and need a set. If anyone has any ideas I would love them.
Since I can't go out and play, I thought I would share some riding tips.

1. You need to wear eye protection, a helmet, visible clothing, and the right footwear. Rain gear doesn't hurt either. There are riding glasses that have foam padding to keep the wind out. I have pink ones.

2. Take time to learn skills such as braking, accelerating, cornering and curves, so that when you go out into traffic, you're prepared. Left turns were a pain for me in the beginning. I don't know why but it was difficult. I am still very cautious.

3. Learn how to ride in all types of weather, even the rain. You never know when one could pop up. Learn how to dodge debris in the road in a safe manner.

4. Learn how to break quickly in case a stray dog or cat jumps out in front of you.

5. I know everyone obeys traffic laws, right? Even if you always do, pay attention to what other drivers are doing.

6. Don't take chances. Take you time. There is nothing wrong with pulling over and letting that "Road Rage" driver pass you.

Jambalaya

I happily decided to cook for about 30 people for my Hubby's meeting. I miss cooking for a bunch of people now that two of my kiddies have left the nest. Hubby wanted Jambalaya so that's what he got.
22 quarts of Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya.

Jambalaya

3 cups chicken breast
1 pound smoked sausage
1 large bell pepper diced
2 large white onions diced
3 cloves of garlic chopped
1/2 bunch of green onions chopped
2-8 ounce cans tomato sauce
1 1/2 cup diced tomatoes (Rotel will work)
2 cups white or brown rice
salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, dash of Tabasco, chicken seasoning
Save some chicken stock
2-Tablespoon of butter, water

Boil chicken in water with some chicken seasoning until done. After it cools, chop into bite size chunks. Chop sausage into bite size chunks. Chop onions and bell pepper. Cut garlic finely. Brown white onions, bell pepper, and garlic in butter. Add tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Simmer for about 20 minutes. Add chicken and sausage. Add rice and chopped green onions. Add a pinch of cayenne (or more if you like it spicy). Stir ingredients thoroughly. Add enough water to cover ingredients with water then add enough chicken stock to cover it by 1 inch. Bring to a boil stirring frequently. Cover and cook on low heat for 40 minutes or until rice is tender. Add salt and pepper to taste.
You can add other ingredients like shrimp, ham or crawfish or all three.

What Is Geocaching?

Recently I have had several friends ask me to explain what Geocaching is. Unfortunately, I have been doing it for awhile now and I sometimes skip important information. I found a video on YouTube that explains it much better than I can. Get out and explore! This is a fun way to get the kids away from computers and indoor games and out exploring the world around them. Quality time with your spouse or kids has never been this exciting. Pack a picnic lunch and head out and find those Caches.

Worked some overtime, so here are some old Geocaching Pics

Hubby and Son looking hard for that Cache.

A great idea!! There was a geocache here. This is a community garden where people in the community grow vegetables.

Review- Frogg Toggs

I recently purchased Frogg Toggs Road Toad Reflective Wind and Rain Suit. I needed a good rain suit for riding Piglet. I think I have found the perfect suit. I made my purchase through Amazon.com but it was sold through Workwear Savings. I received my order about one week after making my purchase. I was impressed. The material is breathable but very strong. It doesn't have that itchy or plastic feel to it. I despise rain suits that are not breathable. I hate getting sweaty while trying to stay dry from the rain. It has reflective piping for better visibility. I tested the visibility of it out at night, and while it isn't as reflective as wearing one of those ugly safety vests, it is better than just normal clothing. I love the fact that it is machine washable. They fold up easily and can be placed in the compartment under my seat. I'm hoping soon they will make them in colors that are more stylish for women. Pink would be a great idea. I now have to buy a set for Hubby.
