Fairview Riverside State Park

Fairview Riverside State Park is one of Louisiana's many beautiful State Parks. It is located 2 miles east of Madisonville, Louisiana. The park is on 99 acres on the Tchefuncte River. The park has an interesting Swamp Trail that is just a small walkway to breath taking views of the swamp area. See the Cypress trees up close an all of the wildlife that lives in this area. We saw many birds and squirrels running around that seem to ignore us on our walk.

The Bald Cypress Trees are everywhere and give the area an eerie beauty.

I love this picture of the "Cypress Knees" sticking out of the water. You have to be careful if you step off of the path, because this knees are sticking up out of the ground. It looks like a gnome's paradise.

See the Otis House which was built in the 1880's for a saw mill owner. It was renovated in the 1930's and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

There is even Geocaching in the park. Hubby found this one on the Swamp Trail.

I fell in love with Old Town Madisonville. The quaint little shops and restaurants were everywhere. We could park anywhere and just walk around. The cute little drug store is really a museum. As with any town in Louisiana, you have to try the local cuisine. I recommend any Po-boy.
