Fun Facts Friday

I adopted two cats this week from Petsmart. They are adorable. Since my world is wrapped around my new babies this week, I thought Fun Facts Friday should be about cats. Enjoy!

1. Female cats tend to be right pawed, while male cats are more often left pawed.
Interestingly, while 90% of humans are right handed, the remaining 10% of lefties also tend to be male.

2. During the time of the Spanish Inquisition, Pope Innocent VIII condemned cats as evil
and thousands of cats were burned. Unfortunately, the widespread killing of cats led to an
explosion of the rat population, which helped the spread of the Black Death.

3. While many parts of Europe and North America consider the black cat a sign of bad luck,
in Britain and Australia, black cats are considered lucky.

4. A cat almost never meows at another cat, mostly just humans.
Cats typically will spit, purr, and hiss at other cats.

5. The first cartoon cat was Felix the Cat in 1919.

6. Cats can drink sea water to re-hydrate themselves.

7. Sir Isaac Newton, discoverer of the principles of gravity, also invented the cat door.

8. 25% of cat owners admit to blow drying their cat's hair after a bath.

9. Cats purrs exploit our nurturing instinct by incorporating the same frequency as a baby’s cry.

  1. I like cats and I do not like that King who killed cats, that is cruel. Congrats on adopting some new cats. A lot of interesting facts about cats. I thought it was very interesting to see that cats can drink salt water.

  2. Congrats to you and your new babies!!! We love animals. Do they have names? Color? Do they meow at each other - haha.

  3. We all do go "aww" at a cat's purr and want to cuddle the cat. I hadn't thought about it but interesting to know that it's the pitch of a baby's cry.

  4. I didn't know they could drink sea water to re-hydrate. I looked up why and their kidneys work to expel the salt. Very efficient and could come in handy!
