key ingredient recipe readerI was recently contacted by Key Ingredient and asked to check out their new Key Ingredient Recipe Reader. Similar in size to a tablet, it is made to be IN the kitchen, to sit on your counter and be used by a busy cook! No worry about if you just got sauce on your $500 tablet! Nope this reader has a easily wiped off cover (with a damp cloth) and is sturdy enough not to be easily knocked over. It has  large screen, easy to use interface (you almost don't need any instructions with it), large keyboard that pops up when needed and large font sizes. Plus you can adjust many of the settings to make it just right for YOU!

But the real fun with the reader?  You can input all those recipes sitting on index cards on that bookshelf! Now when you want to find Great Grandma's Pumpkin Pie recipe, you can just hunt by pumpkin, and voila!, there it is!  Only liked one recipe from that expensive cookbook you got for last Christmas? Easy peasy- put that recipe on the Recipe Reader and give away the cookbook- now someone else can enjoy it, and your bookshelf has some space! You can see how well you could get rid of all those excess cookbooks, can't you?

The screen is well laid out, and all the different controllers are on the bottom, while your library screen is right there! And as you can see the recipes are sorted based on your descriptions!

It is super easy to add a recipe to your collection on the program, with their formatted form (see below pix) add it to which library you want and ta-da your recipes are digital!

But there is more- it has not 1, but 3 timers on it! How handy is that especially with holiday cooking? And as you can see below, they are super easy to set! AND, yes there is more, it has a substitution list! Now you won't have to go hunting the internet to find what you can substitute an ingredient for, when you're in the middle of cooking the recipe! Just scroll down, find the ingredient you need to substitute, click on it and get a picture and possible substitutions.

Oh but there is more!

How about a converter? Yup for beginner cooks who have NO idea what a dash means, the Recipe Reader can tell you!  I converted a dash to a teaspoon, for curiosity below. The reader can convert just about any type of measurement in a recipe, making it easy while cooking! AND talk about trying to figure great grandma's recipes easily!

You can sign up for the Key Ingredient subscription and get recipes delivered to your inbox, which can then be saved into your reader, via the Key Ingredient Program! For bloggers, that means you can upload your blog recipes into an unique library and have them available for anyone who follows your library! Did I just hear a scream of 'oooo new followers'? Yup, just like that other addictive board, Key Ingredient lets you follow other people and the recipes they upload! And it's activity board lets you see how many people are downloading your recipes too! You can upload your own pictures and make people HUNGRY! Yup- you can hunt down recipes that will make you drool!!!!!! AND you can share the recipes via Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and via email. How great is that?

key ingredient recipe reader sizing

In case you are wondering about the size of the reader- I took a picture next to a glass jar that is typical for most spices-as you can see it it not too big (to be in your way) or too small (where you couldn't see it). The base is sturdy and it has a usb jack and it comes with a power cord for charging, At under $150, this is a gift that will keep on giving!

Check out this recent recipe from Joanna, and featured in the weekly Key Ingredient email, that is super easy for those busy weekday school nights! :

key ingredient skillet 4 cheese pasta

Skillet Four Cheese Pasta

1 lb  rotini pasta or penne
¾ lb hot Italian sausage
2 sweet red peppers
1 large onion
1 tbsp olive oil
1 jar (26 ounces) marinara sauce
2 cps shredded Italian four-cheese blend

Directions:

1. Heat oven to 450 F.
2. Cook pasta following package directions. Drain.
3. While pasta is cooking, cut sausage into 1/2-inch slices. Seed and slice peppers and slice onion for a total of 4 cups.
4. Heat olive oil in a large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Add sausage, peppers and onions. 5. Cook, 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until peppers and onions are tender and the sausage is cooked through.
6. Add sauce and bring to a simmer.
7. Stir in the drained pasta and 1 cup of the cheese.
8 Sprinkle remaining cheese over the pasta and bake at 450 F for 8 minutes or until cheese melts and casserole starts to bubble.
9. Cool 5 minutes before serving.

Note: Buy precut peppers and onions in the supermarket produce aisle to save prep time.
